Our journey into the 2025 Total Lunar Eclipse
On the night of September 7 into 8, 2025, skywatchers across the world went outside to witness a stunning celestial spectacle: a total lunar eclipse that bathed the full moon in a deep red hue, spiritually referred to as the Blood Moon.
This event was especially dramatic because of how deeply the Moon passed through Earth’s umbral shadow, and because it coincided with the September “Corn Moon.”
Why does the Moon turn red?
Even when the Moon is “in shadow,” some sunlight still reaches it—but only after passing through Earth’s atmosphere.
As this light travels through our atmosphere, shorter (blue) wavelengths are scattered away more strongly, while longer (red/orange) wavelengths bend (refract) through the atmosphere and reach the Moon, giving it a reddish cast.
The depth of the red colour depends on atmospheric conditions: dust, clouds, or pollution around Earth can make the eclipse darker or more muted in colour.
The timing of this eclipse — as the September full moon (often called the “Corn Moon” or “Harvest Moon”) — adds a seasonal layer of symbolism: harvest, cycles, culmination, and letting go.
Moon Musings
A Blood Moon is more than an astrological event — it is rooted in culture, legends, magick and mystery. Throughout history, a lunar eclipse has been revered as an omen, a time for deep reflection and transformation, and the spiritual turning point leading to life-changing karmic shifts.
This Harvest Blood Moon is a rare and spectacular event in lunar living practices because it rises in Pisces. A full moon is symbolic of the fulfilment of intentions, completion and release. However, the energy of a Pisces full moon can be felt for several days before it arrives as it is the last sign of the zodiac, bringing a powerful sense of endings to make space for the new beginnings of the new zodiac calendar. The lunar eclipse not only embodies all these elements, but is supercharging the heightened emotions, calling us stronger than ever to embrace the end of that which does not serve us, and a let go of all that keeps us small.
Energetically, this lunation pulls focus to the tides of the subconscious: you may have experienced disturbed sleep, vivid dreams, foreboding intuition, and feelings of grief that can feel overwhelming and without reason. But you may also feel the undeniable desire to seek change, to transform areas in your life that are holding you back, and to explore your creativity that wants to be seen in the world. The “blood” red energy also connects to your root chakra, inviting radical honesty about what drains and sustains your connection to the physical world.
The seed of an idea : Wild Acre Moon
As we approached the pending rise of the Blood Moon, so the desire for change and growth rose within us. The time was not only coming for a new beginning, to reconnect to the earth and follow our intuitive calling, it was already upon us.
On the day of the lunar eclipse, we took the family to Hengistbury Head. As we waited for the moon to reveal herself in the hazy sky over the Isle of Wight, we watched the sunset behind Boscombe pier. We knew in that moment, that the setting of the sun was the end to limiting thoughts and beliefs about pipe dreams and unobtainable goals. It was the letting go of expectation, and the prioritising of ambitions and plans that were not our own.
The Blood Moon appeared visible only once the first slither of the sun lit moon emerged. This small piercing of light, similar to the first sign of the waxing moon, illuminated the red shadow, and it was incredible. We reflected on the journey we have been on, and as the crowds cheered and celebrated the reveal, we understood we were exactly where we were meant to be in that moment. With our family and strangers together, sharing this rare cyclical event, we marked the beginning of a legacy that we hope to share with everyone who feels connected to a greater energy that binds us all with nature.
And so Wild Acre Moon was born.
